All About La Conner, WA
- by Jodie Vinson
In 1869 John Conner bought a trading post and named it using the initials of his wife Louise Anne. La Conner is nestled on the banks of the Swinomish Channel of the North Puget Sound and surrounded by a landscape representative of the valley's charm. Much wildlife frequents the shores of the channel, including seals, otters and waterfowl. The Skagit Valley is an ideal place to catch a glimpse of migrating birds such as Snow Geese and Trumpeter Swans. Explore the farms, rivers, islands and mountains of the valley with a comfortable stay in a welcoming hometown atmosphere. The town's 900 residents invite visitors to slow down to a La Conner pace, strolling along the channel and watching boats makes their way to the San Juan Islands.
