The winsome village lies on a bluff overlooking Saratoga passage with a sunrise view of the snow-capped Cascade Mountains. Those who arrive by boat will be welcomed into the Langley Boat Harbor. The marina is full of recreational possibilities. Slip a kayak in and paddle to Freeland, Possession Point, or across the Saratoga Passage to Camano Island. Outfitters are available for training and tours. Explore the marina and its underwater world scuba diving at Langley Tire Reef. The protected waters of the harbor allow prime visibility for viewing the starfish, fish, and Dungeness crabs thriving beneath the surf. The waters around Whidbey are home to much larger sea creatures as well. Every spring resident Gray Whales return to the waters below Langley's bluffs to feed on ghost shrimp in the shallows. The town celebrates the occasion with a "Welcome the Whales" festival and parade in April, and whale-watching expeditions are available for charter.

Return to Langley's peaceful shores from watery ventures to unwind with shopping or book-browsing. The marina is a short walk away from Langley's historic streets, lined with abundant art galleries, antique shops, boutiques, cafes, and even a movie theatre from the 1930's. The town has a thriving cultural life, celebrating its local artists at events throughout the year. It is also a well-known literary destination for various new and used bookshops, earning its motto, "book town by the sea." Quaint inns and charming bed and breakfasts provide comfortable stays for those who wish to explore the town more thoroughly. Its colorful local history is on display at the museum in the bunkhouse of Langley's first settler.
