Port Orchard's marina is renowned for being a starting point for West Sound boating activities including sailing, fishing and diving. Sinclare inlet is frequently visited by sea life including killer whales, porpose and harbor seals, as well as providing opportunities for bird watching. Throughout the year, the community hosts several festivals and events that draw outsiders to Port Orchard's lively waterfront such as Festival by the Bay and Fathoms O'Fun, an occasional Tall Ships visit, and even a Seagull Calling Festival. Beautiful wooden boats gather in the marina annually for the Chris-Craft celebration too. The Port Orchard Farmer's Market sets up during summer weekends near the city marina along the historic downtown waterfront. The market supports the rural and agricultural life of the Kitsap Peninsula as local farmers and craftsmen display their crops and wares at one of the largest Farmers Markets in the state.

Even while maintaining such a vibrant seaside life Port Orchard is a town that has not lost perspective on its past. Visitors can explore the roots and development of Northwest home life in the Log Cabin Museum. Built in 1914, the cabin contains exhibits which document domestic changes the town has seen over the past century. The Sidney Museum and Art Gallery are housed in one of the town's original structures, the Masonic Hall. The museum preserves remnants of the past life of the peninsula while the gallery celebrates its artists of past and present.
