Things to do at Deer Harbor
Life in Deer Harbor centers around its marina, which has an appealing recreational focus. Here you can rent boats, book a whale watching charter, go on a kayak tour, or embark on a classic wooden sailboat for spectacular sailing. The maritime history of the town is kept active by events sponsored by the Wooden Boat Society such as an annual Wooden Boat Rendezvous of over fifty vessels, an annual Schooner Race, and an International 6 Meter Race, the Boundary Cup.
One of the few sand beaches of the San Juans is located at Deer Harbor Marina, for beach-combing and contemplative walks along the waterfront. Fishing opportunities are plentiful with bounties of Dungeness crab, Rock crab, and shrimp. Bikes are also available for rent in Deer Harbor for those who wish to explore the island topography. Enjoy your stay at Deer Harbor in a resort, rustic cottage, or waterfront B&B. Most common transportation to Orcas Island is by ferry from Anacortes. Transportation on the island is readily available upon arrival, from bike rental to van and taxi services. In addition, island hoppers transport visitors to other islands from Deer Harbor.
