Things to do at Lopez Island

After a forty-five minute ferry ride from Anacortes, complete with spectacular views and an occasional whale, visitors will be welcomed to the shores of Lopez Island. Those arriving by private boat will find safe moorage in one of the two marinas located in Fisherman Bay, or at Spencer Spit State Park and Odlin Country Park. Walk to Lopez Village or choose alternative transportation from nearby bike and kayak rental facilities. The center of island activity is located in Lopez Village. Shops, restaurants, cafes, and galleries are all located here along the bay, with picnic facilities at Lopez Village Park.

The island shoreline is alive with public beaches and trails that give access to waterfront views. Much of its natural landscape is preserved in parks such as Agate Beach, Shark Reef Park, and Upright Head. The history is also always accessible through the Historical Museum as well as a restored schoolhouse. Two events dominate the island's yearly calendar. Cyclists can participate in a bike tour through the island in April. The flat topography of the island makes it one of the more popular San Juans to see by bike. Beginning after Thanksgiving, the Winter Village is a holiday celebration including an array of lights and decorations. The island's visitor friendly atmosphere and unique island charm makes it an ideal destination in any season.
