All About Orcas Island, WA
- by Jodie Vinson
Orcas Island is composed of many tiny hamlets and villages tucked among tranquil inlets of its variegated shoreline. While it is the largest of the San Juan Islands, it maintains a rural setting of stunning natural landscape. Much of the island's history is on display at the Orcas Island Historical Museum, located in Eastsound. The horseshoe shaped island was populated by the Lummi tribe before discovered by Spanish explorers and settled in the 1850's. Today its unique setting as a mountainous island draws visitors year round to explore the stunning vistas and quiet villages of its shores.
