Things to do at Orcas Island, WA
Eastsound is both the geographical and cultural center of the island, offering a variety of lodging, dining and aquatic activities from its waterfront on the East Sound, between the two "saddle bags" of Orcas' topography. To the west visitors can find more accommodations in Orcas Village, Westsound, and Deer Harbor. The eastern half of the island contains the smaller towns of Olga and Doe Bay, both offering charming restaurants and quiet seaside escapes. Moran State Park delineates Orcas from the rest of the San Juan Islands, as visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the entire archipelago from on top of 2409 foot Mount Constitution. The park also is home to many lakes and sports thirty miles of hiking trails.
There are opportunities to explore Orcas in a variety of ways, from horseback to cycling, with equestrian tours and bike rentals available in the larger towns. Charter boats for whale watching and kayak tours are available from several locations around the island, including Eastsound, Orcas and Deer Harbor. Visitors can even view the islands from the air with tours offered out of Eastsound. Whether by sail, bike, or plane, Orcas's mountainous island topography is an exciting landscape to explore.
