- by Jodie Vinson
Allyn is situated on the quiet waters of Case Inlet's North Bay, just four miles from Hood Canal. Visitors from Seattle can take the Bremerton ferry to the Kitsap Peninsula and drive south to discover the refreshment of this small town destination.
The community was first settled in 1853 and grew around the development of a sawmill as the area was explored for its lumber. The town was also depended on the harvesting of huckleberries and oysters for its livelyhood. Allyn soon boasted of a post office, school, a saloon and bustling wharf. From its earliest days Allyn was known as a prime vacation spot for the calm waters and the beauty of its natural setting. Today visitors from nearby Seattle and Tacoma still find it an ideal getaway, complete with the contemporary amenities of its sparkling waterfront.
