The history and heart of the island's present day community can be found on its historic farms. Many are still working while serving locals and guests in a variety of ways. The Historical Society Museum is located at Johnson farm, where visitors can tour the island's domestic and agricultural past. The farm continues to host the communal life of the island, inviting guests to partake in annual celebrations such as a salmon bake and apple squeeze. The historic Christine Anderson Farm is home to the Bay Shoppe, full of arts, crafts and antiques. The chicken coop has been converted into an art studio. Even accommodation on the island can be served up farm-style. Anderson house on Oro Bay is a farm run by descendents of some of the first pioneers on the island. The farm has been renovated into a guesthouse with workshop and retreat facilities surrounded by the charm of the island's secluded landscape. Get off the farm to enjoy dining at the Riveria Club overlooking Lake Josephine. Along with Lake Florence, Josephine is a popular place for freshwater swimming. Or visit the Ol' Swimming Hole at Lowell Johnson Park. Many other parks give visitors access to the island's natural history, like the trail to Andrew Anderson Marine Park on Carlson Bay. An impressive system of trails through wetlands and old-growth timber awaits hikers at Andy's Wildlife Park.
