Things to do in Des Moines, WA
The town of Des Moines has made the most of its prime topography along the Puget Sound with a recreational marina offering pier fishing, boat launching and moorage. The marina can be found in the East Passage across from Pt. Robinson on Maury Island. Redondo Beach also has a pier and boat launch, as well as an established boardwalk for scenic vistas along the waterfront. Take in more stunning views of the Olympic Mountains from one of the various Overlook Parks and beaches scattered along Des Moines' shores.
The city's roots run deepest in Des Moines Beach Park, the site of the town's first saw mill and still home to historical buildings, a bike path and beach. In addition to these city parks, Saltwater State Park boasts of being the most frequented state park along the Sound. Its popularity can be attributed to almost 1,500 feet of sandy beach perfect for swimming and picnicking. An artificial reef also attracts scuba divers on underwater ventures. Camping facilities are perched on a bluff overlooking the beach.
