Harstene Island is a rural destination offering a serene and peaceful setting for nature lovers and Northwest back road explorers. What you will find here is winding country roads, forested landscapes, grassy meadows, driftwood lined pebbly beaches, and secluded coves filled with oysters.

At the northern tip of the island, the private gated community of Harstene Pointe offers a few vacation rentals for isolated beach getaways. The island has many privately owned vacation cabins with stunning views of the Sound, Olympic Mountains, and Mt. Rainier.

The islands parks host abundant wildlife and invite visitors to investigate the natural habitat of South Puget Sound. Many areas of McMicken State Park are only accessible by water--making it an ideal kayaking and beach camping destination. Explore 1,661 feet of undeveloped shoreline on the park's forested hiking trails. Visitors can frequently catch a glimpse of the area's bald eagle population and marine wildlife. Hike through lush woodlands to discover a hidden beach at Harstene Island State Park. Jarrell Cove State Park, a great boaters hangout, also maintains a rugged and remote appeal. Many of its visitors arrive by boat at the northwest end of the island and enjoy swimming, diving, fishing, shellfish gathering, and camping along its waterfront.
