Things to do in Key Center, WA

Explore the peninsula's rural landscape by bike or by a scenic drive along the woodsy country roads winding through the Key Peninsula. Stop along the way in the small communities where you will be welcomed into family owned diners, country markets, shops and art galleries. Each community has a unique heritage to explore. Take in the peninsula's history at the Key Peninsula Museum in Vaughn, where the first settler made his land claim. The tiny town of Home still serves as residence to some of the descendants of the original utopian community established there in 1896. Try a little wine tasting at Trillium Creek, the peninsula's first winery. Longbranch offers visitors a resort-like setting, while Lakebay and its nearby Bay Lake offer recreational facilities and a farmers market. Minter's well-known oyster farm is always open for self-guided tours. Paddle over to the private community of Herron Island.

Key Peninsula also contains within its 75 square miles two state parks. Joemma Beach, near Gig Harbor, has plenty of camping along its expansive waterfront where visitors can go fishing, crabbing, and boating. Penrose State Park is located southwest of Purdy along the Mayo Cove and Carr Inlet. There are many opportunities to view wildlife along its forested trails or on a picnic along its shores. In the summer months, Horseshoe Lake County Park in the north is a popular place to go swimming. The more audacious traveler might go shipwreck diving at the Taylor Bay Wreck Site or circumnavigate the entire peninsula by kayak on the Key Peninsula Marine Trail.
