Things to do in Olympia, WA
Take in views of the mountains that named the city on a walk along the boardwalk of Percival Landing, one of the three parks that grace Olympia's waterfront. The park was named after a well-known steamship wharf and now provides recreational use of the waterfront with picnic areas, public art, and interpretive sites documenting the history of the harbor. Priest Point Park also offers trails along the water, and stunning scenery is on hand at East Bay Waterfront Park. The Woodard Bay Conservation Area, once the site a primary logging facility, preserves five miles of shoreline along Henderson Inlet. The 600-acre area serves as sanctuary to much shoreline wildlife. Nearby the Nisqually Wildlife Reserve provides ample opportunity for bird watching.
Splash in the Henderson Park fountain, within view of the Capitol, or hunt down one of the artesian spring wells that feed the city and served as meeting places in the past. Admire the craftsmanship of the Sounds historical fleets at the annual Wooden Boat Fair. Just south of Olympia's main waterfront is Swantown Marina and Boatworks, providing moorage and services to boaters of the South Sound. To the north, the historic community of Boston Harbor offers a marina equipped with a beach, picnic area, boat launch, and boat and kayak rentals.
