Friday, May 25th, 2012 - Juan De Fuca Festival of the Arts

On a Memorial Day Weekend in 1994, the very first Juan de Fuca Festival of the Arts was launched and Port Angeles was never quite the same. Nineteen remarkable years later, we want to welcome you once more to this annual celebration that will amaze and delight you with its quality, diversity and just plain fun.
The Juan de Fuca Festival is truly taking its rightful place as one of the top festivals in the west, if not the country. And with advance tickets (through April 30) available at just $$45, this has to be one of the best deals ever ($$60 at the gate).
We are also doubling down on our “Juan de Fuca After Hours in the Clubs” program (included in the ticket price). Its off—the—charts success last year, the program’s first, has us greatly expanding in 2012 and including top headlining bands. If only you could be four places at once! Check it out here. We’re talking non—stop, multi—stage entertainment for as much as 14 hours a day.

Mark your calendars! The Bainbridge Island Arts & Humanities
Council will present its 24th annual Bainbridge in Bloom garden tour on July 13, 14, & 15, 2012. One of the Pacific Northwest’s premier garden tours, The Bloom is also the nonprofit Arts & Humanities Council's primary annual fundraiser.

This year's tour will feature five magnificent Bainbridge gardens, beautifully distinct from each other but collectively underscoring the island's standing as a national gardeners' Eden.

Saturday's and Sunday's general tour will feature live music and fine art and craft available for sale at each site. Friday's special preview events will include lunch and a tour of an island estate rarely opened to the public, and the opportunity to take a self—driven, self—paced tour. Anchoring the weekend will be Evening in Bloom, a gala benefit auction.

Tickets for Bainbridge in Bloom will go on sale online in early spring, 2012. To sign up to receive future event updates, please email bloom@artshum.org.

*About the Arts & Humanities Council*
For a quarter century, the Arts & Humanities Council has nurtured Bainbridge Island’s cultural community with programs, services, and collaborations that form the core of our mission: to create an environment on Bainbridge Island in which the arts and humanities flourish. Last year we engaged 2,200 young people in a full range of quality arts and humanities programs; provided important support services to local artists and cultural organizations; awarded $$55,000 in grants and scholarships to outstanding members of the cultural community; and engaged people beyond our island in the creative milieu that is Bainbridge.

This annual festival features over 275 Canadian and international musicians of various styles of jazz, blues and world music. The 10 day festival occurs at over 12 different indoor and outdoor events in downtown Victoria.

The Victoria Jazz Society was founded in 1981. We produce two major multi—day music festivals every summer, TD Victoria International JazzFest, and the Vancouver Island Blues Bash, as well as a series of concerts from September to May every year.

The TD Victoria International JazzFest (formerly known as JazzFest International), is a ten—day music festival featuring the jazz, blues and world music of local, Canadian, and internationally acclaimed musicians. The “grandfather” of music festivals serving audiences in Vancouver and Gulf Islands region, the TD JazzFest offers its devoted audience a wide scope of programming comparable to much larger festivals in significantly larger urban areas. Since its inception in 1985, the festival has been presented and produced by the Victoria Jazz Society

The Classic Boat Festival is presented by the Victoria Real Estate Board.

Every Labour Day Long Weekend Victoria’s Inner Harbour is the place to be when classic sail and power boats from throughout the Pacific Coast and beyond arrive for the Classic Boat Festival. This is the premier wooden boat show in the Pacific Northwest, drawing more than 200 vessels in a wide variety of categories from Steam Launches to gaff rigged Schooners.

This show breaks boats into three categories; sail, power and steam. Forty boats were entered in the sail category, ranging in vintage from 1897 to the 50's and in length from 30 to 85 feet. Dorothy, a 30 foot fantail cutter, was built in Victoria in 1897 by shipwright John Jacobson. Dorothy is the oldest floating Canadian sailing vessel in British Columbia and was donated to the Maritime Museum of British Columbia in 1995.

The highlight of the festival takes place on Sunday mornings with the Sailpast. All vessels leave the Inner Harbour to take the salute from the Honorary Commodore. On the Sunday afternoon, spectators enjoy the annual Schooner Cup and Classic Open Sail races. On the Saturday afternoon, spectators can see the delightful parade of steamboats cruising the Gorge Waterway. The steamboats leave the Inner Harbour around 2 p.m. There is no admission charge for spectators to view the vessels in the Festiva
